“The best time to plant
a tree was 20 years ago.
The second best time is now.”

– Chinese Proverb

At SOL Projex we see it as utilizing the abundance available here on Kauai.

We design by creating with solutions, paving new ways to be economically resourceful and self-reliant. Our plan is to remove and mill invasive and non-native trees for renewable timber. This is, to say the least, a huge industry waiting to happen. A main component at Sol Projex is to restore Kauai’s natural habitat. With each invasive tree cut down, a native tree will be planted. This in turn creates solutions for community needs, such as low-income housing development. Our aim is to design a model of eco-friendly homes for multi and single-family housing. Improving the quality of these structures, while reducing the ecological impact on the environment.

The term “invasive species” refers to plant specimens that reproduce quickly and out-place native species. Here in Hawaii, invasive species pose a huge threat to our environment, economy, agriculture, human health, and quality of life. As government agencies are doing what they can to control the spread of these plants, each of us has the opportunity to help. That is why we are excited to help remove these invasives, while also giving them another chance at life, transforming what was once a threat into a usable material to build sustainable structures.

The Albizia and Strawberry Guava are on the top 5 list of invasive trees, both of which offer a diversity of hard and softwood material.

The Albizia tree is quite possibly the fastest growing tree in the world. It matures quickly and spreads easily through wind-borne seeds. After harvesting the trees, the larger material will be used for building, and the smaller branches and leaves will naturally decompose in the soil offering necessary nitrogen-fixing nutrients for the growth of newly planted native trees.
